Docs By The Sea Incubator is an incubation program providing safe space for Southeast Asian documentary filmmakers to aim higher and to reach wider audience, without the pressure of an open pitching forum. There are three labs which will take place in Bali (venue to be confirmed):
Storytelling Lab (25–28 April 2019)
Eight (8) selected projects will work with two (2) international mentors to develop a compelling storyline, story structure, effective synopsis and other hidden gems waiting to be polished. As many projects have to go to pitching forums to find funding and distribution, in the last day, there will be a chance to do a pitch exercise.
Creative Producing Lab (29 April–2 May 2019)
Becoming a documentary producer in Southeast Asian countries is not an easy task. Challenges are abundant and the international industry can be intimidating. Eight (8) emerging Southeast Asian producers are invited to this intimate sharing sessions where they can exchange precious industry insights on funding, distribution, negotiation, contracts and handy skills that are absolutely necessary to navigate the market. The four (4) day lab is a safe space to talk about the challenges you are facing with two (2) professional producers and fellow participants.
Editing Lab (25 April–2 May 2019)
In these intense eight (8) days, eight (8) selected projects in rough cut stage will get editing consultation from four (4) world-class mentors. The selected projects are expected to arrive with the director, editing equipment and editor so the eight-day lab can maximize the potentials of the film, clarify the vision of the director, and help the film to reach wider audience.
